Record April freeze hits U.S. - major crop damage

The Heartland Institute [Illinois] reported on May 1, 2007:

Hundreds of cities across most of the eastern United States suffered record cold and snow throughout much of April. Analysts pointed out the unexpected cold spell illustrates the unpredictability of both weather and longer-term climate conditions.

The seemingly endless cold spell had baseball fans and Easter celebrants wondering when global warming would arrive, as repeated blasts of cold and snowy Arctic air forced the cancellation or change in venue for seasonal celebrations dependent on Spring-like weather.

Major Crop Damage

Farmers suffered substantial crop damage and economic loss.

Stanley Scarborough, production manager of Georgia's Sunnyridge Farms, said the state's blueberry crop, which is normally harvested around June 1, had to be prematurely harvested in early April before the freezing weather hit, according to an April 7 Associated Press story. "At 26 or 27 degrees, you would probably lose half of the Georgia crop," valued at $20 million to $25 million, Scarborough was quoted as saying.

In South Carolina, 90 percent of the peach crop was destroyed in a mid-April deep freeze. "This is comparable to a hurricane," state Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers told the media. "Growers will be fortunate to get 10 percent of a crop."

In Georgia, more than half the peach crop was lost.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer asked Gov. Ernie Fletcher (R) to seek federal disaster relief as a result of the prolonged blasts of Arctic air. Fletcher reported as much as 90 percent of the state's apple and peach crops were destroyed.

Contradicted Alarmists' Predictions

"Even after some [expected] late month moderation, April 2007 will likely keep the month in the top seven coldest in history," Weather Trends International reported as this article went to press.

"How ironic that the protracted spring cold spell follows premature claims that this past winter would be one of the warmest on record," Burnett said.

Europe rewriting record books in wake of April heat wave

JournalNow.com [North Carolina] reported on May 1, 2007:

April was so warm and dry across Western Europe that it rewrote the weather record books in country after country, national weather services said yesterday, as hot air from Africa drove up temperatures and kept rain away.

April was the eighth consecutive month of higher-than-normal temperatures in Germany, and the 13th successive month of unusual warmth in France.

The British Met Office said last week that April — and the 12 months ending in April — were likely to be the warmest in the 350 years that records of what is known as the Central England Temperature have been kept.

Weather goes from record rain to record heat

The Santa Maria [California] Times reported on May 8, 2007:

Santa Maria hit a record high temperature Monday, just days after the city received a record amount of rainfall for the date.

The thermometer reached 93 degrees Monday in Santa Maria, which cracked the date's previous record of 91 degrees set on May 7, 1984, according to Bonnie Bartling, National Weather Service specialist.

Lompoc hit a high of 92 degrees Monday, according to the Weather Service. Santa Ynez was 91 degrees at its hottest point, and Cuyama had a slightly cooler high of 85 degrees.

“We knew it would be a pretty toasty day today,” Bartling said.

Monday's clear skies contrasted sharply with the record rainfall of .04 inches Friday in Santa Maria. The previous record for May 4 was .02 inches in 1956.

Monday should be the warmest day of the week, Bartling said, with temperatures returning to more “normal” levels in the days to follow.

The absence of a marine layer at the coast is always an indication of warm temperatures.

“Anytime winds shift offshore, it's going to be warmer,” Bartling said.

The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 82 degrees today in Santa Maria, with the expected high dropping to 74 degrees Wednesday and 68 degrees by Friday.

Temperatures are anticipated to be a bit warmer in Lompoc, with an expected high of 83 degrees today and 75 degrees Wednesday. However, Lompoc's high temperature should fall to 67 degrees on Friday.

Patchy fog is anticipated in both Santa Maria and Lompoc beginning Wednesday night and lingering through the end of the week. Light wind is forecast in the coming days for both cities.

Record heat in Iceland

The Iceland Review reported on April 30, 2007:

Temperatures hit new records across Iceland yesterday. In Ásbyrgi national park in northeast Iceland the temperature went up to 23°C, which is the highest recorded temperature in Iceland in April.

“There is still sweltering sunshine here,” Aevar Ísak Sigurgeirsson, who works at the shop in Ásbyrgi, told Fréttabladid yesterday afternoon. At 3pm the temperature was 22.6°C and reached 23°C at one point.

Until yesterday the highest recoded temperature in Iceland in April was 21.8°C in Saudanes on the Langanes peninsula, east Iceland, in 2003.

The average temperature in Iceland in April is little over 5°C, while the average temperature during June, July and August is 10 to 15°C.

There are unusually many tourists in Ásbyrgi at this time of year. “It was great, but we are so realistic that we wondered whether this would be the hottest day of summer, but hoped for the best,” Sigurgeirsson said.

Heat records were broken in other parts of the country too. The temperature in Akureyri, northeast Iceland, went up to 21.5°C yesterday, which is a record temperature there for April.
 

Spring's crazy weather stings plant growers

April showers aren’t necessarily bringing flowers.

Instead, garden centers, nursery growers and landscapers across the country say heavy rains, unseasonably cold weather and snowstorms this month have been killing business, with the cold and mud keeping consumers from buying flowers, shrubs and vegetable seedlings.

East Coast garden center owners are using adjectives from “miserable” to “horrific” to describe the situation, and are hoping a warm, sunny weekend in many areas will help turn things around.

Spring planting has been delayed a couple of weeks for farmers who can’t get equipment in soggy fields, and winter crops like asparagus that should be getting harvested have not been.

“Right now, everybody’s just waiting till it dries out,” said Ben Casella of the New Jersey Farm Bureau.

Garden centers and wholesale nurseries from southern New England to South Carolina and through the Midwest say business is off – 50 percent at some locations. Meanwhile, fuel costs for heating greenhouses are up dramatically.

“This week, we have done about 10 percent of the business we should do,” said George Lucas, owner of flower wholesaler Lucas Greenhouses in Monroeville, N.J.

Inventory is backed up at retailers and growers from the weather, which has shrunk the April-May window for peak garden sales, said New Jersey Agriculture Secretary Charles Kuperus.

In the Northwest, weather hasn’t been a problem, but inventory is stacking up on loading docks because East Coast retailers can’t take it, said John Aguirre, director of the Oregon Association of Nurseries.

Dave Bender, executive director of the Illinois Nurserymen’s Association, said this has been the worst spring start for many Midwest retailers in 25 years, with frostbite damaging shrubs and flowers, making them unsellable in an industry that “sells on beauty.”

In Massachusetts, Doris Mahoney, co-owner of the eight-store Mahoney’s Garden Centers chain, said the area has been lashed by rain, flooding and 60 mph winds at the Cape Cod location and temperatures in the 20s at night, cutting sales by a third.

Except for a balmy stretch in mid-March, it’s been similar in South Carolina, with frost damaging flowering shrubs and trees, said Robin Klein, manager of Woodley’s Garden Center in Columbia. Not only is business down, but her staff is spending extra hours moving stock indoors at night and answering customers’ questions about how to protect the few things they’ve planted.

Homes that have crucifixes on all the outside doors have been saved from fire, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, storms, riots, etc.

The Blood of the Lamb...

Angel of Death will pass by...
   Jesus - "Yes, My child, in the great Chastisement a ball of fire shall fall into the waters killing all that is living in the seas.  And, also, unfortunately, because they could not listen and change their ways, many will die also from the flames and also from the waters.  Those living along the coastlines, We caution them to keep a sacramental and a crucifix upon their doors, for the angel of death shall not enter your home."    Jesus - "We demand a crucifix, because demons - many of the highest ones in the realms of hell cannot stand the sight of a crucifix.   They will not approach your door.  I give you this knowledge, My children, though it is not common knowledge, My children, though it is not common knowledge upon earth, that the crucifix has great power against satan." Homes saved form Hurricane Gloria...
    Jesus - "My child, We specifically brought you here this evening after the last trial of the past week.  This was allowed to come upon you with no destruction to your home.  However, you knew the fear of fleeing to the mountains.  We directed you, My child, and you did well.  And you escaped having to suffer the hours of darkness, and the sound of the howling of the winds, and the rise of the waters.  But, My child and My children, it will happen again, but this time it will claim lives.
    "Do not be affrighted, My child; I did not say that this will happen to your home on Long Island again.  You suffered not the moments of terror.   We did not wish for you to succumb from sorrow at that time, My child, so We sent you to the mountains; and you returned once the winds had died down to find a home still intact.
    "I must reveal, My children, to the world again, that you are to keep a crucifix on your front door and your back door. All entrances to your home must be guarded by the crucifix.  There has not been one home on Long Island that had a crucifix on its door that did fall to any evil.  I do not speak of the trees, My child; I speak of mankind.  You did not know a major disaster as has happened, My children, in Mexico.  You see, My child, I set you down in that area to bring the word to mankind, and it was through these words that many listened and the passed through the horrible experience of a hurricane." Testimonies

    Many people have had their homes protected from disaster by having a crucifix on the outside of their outside doors.

Dear Bayside Shrine Workers,
    A tornado passed through our town of Westlake, Louisiana early in the morning of January 13, 1995.  No damage came to our house, but two trees fell down in my mother’s front yard.  The electric light utility pole on my mother’s house broke during the storm, and a neighbor said he saw a big flash of fire spread right across the utility pole on to the top of my mother’s roof, but no damage came.   The fire vanished almost immediately. My trailer was rocking with the wind, so was my grandmother’s trailer house, too, but no damage to either one of them.  An electric fire also flashed over my grandmother’s trailer on the roof, but no damage.
    My mother, my grandmother, and my sister--we all have blessed wooden crucifixes on the outside doors of our houses.  We also have the blessed Rose Petals, the holy statues of Our Lady, and the Green Scapulars in our homes.  We all give thanks to Our Lady of the Roses for sparing us any damages on our homes.  Also, our Bayside group gets out the Bayside directives and the messages of Bayside in our area.   We believe this work has spared our area from much disaster in the past of floods, tornadoes and storms.

Crucifixes on door saves H & H Store...
    On June 30, 1984, Jesus said: "And also, My children, I ask you again to place a crucifix upon your door.  Both front and back doors must have a crucifix.  I say this to you because there will be carnage within your areas, and this will pass you by if you keep your crucifix upon your doors."
    Let us now see the factual proof of Heaven’s protection, to those who follow Our Lady’s counsel.  At a "Stop ‘n’ Go" shop at the corner of Jackson St. and Orange Ave. in Paramount, looters broke the windows and cleaned the store of $20,000 to $40,000 in merchandise, including freezers.  One clerk there exclaimed, "Everything was taken!" Two weeks later it was just starting to reopen again to customers.
    Three blocks away, at the corner of Garfield Ave. and Alondra Blvd., was a different story. "H & H Store," also in Paramount, suffered six broken windows, not including the broken glass front door.  Yet with this difference: Nothing was taken.  Owner Juliette Cota gratefully affirmed, "Nothing taken!   Not even a bar of soap!"  A great mystery, considering several of the broken windows were large enough for the looters to easily pass through.  So what was the difference?  The owner had been warned by a local Bayside believer to put up a crucifix on the front door, and she did.  A believer herself, she is now also telling others why her shop was spared.  Her son, fearful of future riots, is desirous to sell the shop and move.  Juliette, the mother and owner, confidently told us, "I am not afraid."

Dear Veronica,
    I sent you a picture that I feel is a miracle of Our Lady of the Roses.   We have the picture, a beautiful statue of Our Lady of the Roses.  On the outside, outdoors it is.  As you know, we in Oakland, California, had a terrible disaster fire that destroyed 3,500 homes.  I am enclosing this special statue picture. It was not touched by the fire, which destroyed all the homes in the block.   I feel this is a precious moment and a photo of the power of the Virgin Mary of the Roses.  Now for our own home, three homes were destroyed by fire, all around ours.   Here is the whole thing.  In your literature sent me, it was mentioned to place a crucifix on your doors, which I did.  The fire destroyed our roof and some trees but our home was spared from destruction.  I truly believe the Blessed Mother protected our home because all homes around us, in back of ours were completely destroyed.   I thought this was noteworthy, and please thank the Blessed Mother of the Roses in one of your visitations.  I pass out all rosaries and scapulars I get and I am dedicated to serve the Blessed Mother and Jesus as long as I live.  From Oakland, California

    In the San Francisco earthquake, a lady was living on the second floor of an apartment building with crucifixes on the doors.  After the earthquake, her apartment was on the first floor.  The apartment below her lost everything.   She didn’t even have one dish break.  The great power of the crucifix!   Can you afford not to have crucifixes on your doors?

To Our Lady of the Roses:
    We live in Western Massachusetts where Hurricane "Bob" came through.  We had crosses on our outside doors.  No damage was done to our home or property.
    On both sides of us people had trees down.  Trees were broken in half etc.  One tree fell in the middle of the street and shook our house but that was all.  Trees and lines were down in the whole neighborhood.  We had no electricity for eight hours.
    During that time, it brought home to us the messages Our Lady talks about where there would be no utilities.  Tell everyone they need their crosses on the outside of all their outside doors.
