El Diario / La Prensa (New York) reported on December 25, 2007 (translation):
New York - Overwhelmed by the strong pains caused by a strange dryness in her hands, Berta Gómez sought all kinds of remedies. All home remedies and the numerous creams that her doctor prescribed proved useless to the incessant pain.
Gómez arrived in New York from Colombia in the 70s. She was prepared to conquer the American dream but the problem of her health did not help her. She had difficulty in so much as washing her hair. She relates that the pain became so strong that she asked God to once and for all remove her hands.
The followers of the Virgin of the Roses assert that in the last four decades She has saved the lives of millions throughout the world."I no longer wanted my hands. They hurt me too much. The worst came one afternoon when I decided to clean my house without gloves. My hands were about to burst”, she remembers.
But the miracle arrived, Gómez, who resides in Queens with her husband and three children, tells us. "That night I implored Our Lady of the Roses to heal me, and that is what happened ".
From that moment on her faith in the Virgin has not ceased and in the last two decades she has been a sort of messenger, carrying the word to those who are without hope, and who do not find shelter in another religion.
Some call the Virgin (in English), Our Lady of the Roses, Mary Help of Mothers, others simply (refer to Her) as the Virgin of the Roses. The truth is that in the last four decades, Her followers maintain that She has saved the lives of millions throughout the world.
The miracles of the Virgin have not been recognized by the Vatican, which has opposed that a church be built for Her. Notwithstanding, Her followers have insisted on the necessity of Her having her own church, especially because during so many years revelations have been recorded, while others affirm to have received blessings through Her miracles.
Judith Reyes is a devotee of the Virgin and assures that in the last years she has been blessed with many miracles. The most important one was that her husband was saved from the clutches of death, after manifesting cardiovascular problems. "I placed blessed petals on my husband´s chest. This saved him immediately”, affirms Reyes, 50 years of age.
Since then the woman has frequently gone to the Vigils, in spite of having to make a long trip from Detroit. "It´s far from where I live but I have much faith in the Virgin and for this reason I have no doubts about going to New York”, says the woman.
Veronica Lueken, a fervent Catholic of Italian origin, was chosen to interpret each one of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary.
Her faith for the Virgin began when she read a newspaper article. "I learned of the apparitions in 1982 and we decided to learn more about Lueken. 'One time we were at a Vigil and I remember when the apparition started. There were sparkles of light everywhere in the sky".
She added that as time has passed, her attendance at the Vigils has diminished, "Although that does not mean that I am not a believer in the Virgin".
During each of the Vigils, Her followers bring bunches of roses. When the petals are dried they are distributed by small children to the followers throughout the world.
The followers of the Pavillion Site affirm that the Virgin has cured thousands of people all over the world by means of the blessed petals. “We have cases of persons who have been cured of several kinds of cancer”.
For now, Her members hope that the Blessed Virgin will do the miracle of convincing the Catholic hierarchy so that the Virgin can have Her own Basilica somewhere in New York.
“The apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe took many years for the priests to believe in the apparition. I believe that with time our Virgin will have her own house where thousands can venerate Her”, Reyes concludes.

Our Lady of the Roses, Mary Help of Mothers promises
