Fox News reports that "Syria denounced Israeli
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's proposal for a new Arab-Israeli peace conference,
with the ruling party newspaper Tuesday calling it a 'dirty maneuver that is
totally rejected.'"
Lebanon has also rejected the Mideast summit
proposal. The participation of both Syria and Lebanon is essential to any peace
talks in the region.
Also, BBC news on April 15th reported that Syrian
President Assad "rebuffed" U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, when
the two personally met in Damascus.
