Homeschooling proponent: Christians patronize public schools at their children's peril...

A home-schooling advocate is encouraging Christian parents across the U.S. to take their children out of public schools, even though the academic year has already begun. Charles Lowers, who heads a ministry called Considering Homeschooling, believes the faith of the vast majority of children is jeopardized by public school education.

Lowers and other advocates for Christian home education say parents should not delegate their God-given responsibility to "raise up a child in the way he should go" to godless schools with increasingly anti-Christian curricula. He feels the secular humanist indoctrination parents can expect from most public schools leaves the children of believers vulnerable to the loss of their faith and the corruption of their values.

"They're so much higher at risk for falling into all those worldly traps," the home-schooling proponent contends, "whether it be premarital sex, abortion, pornography, [or] homosexuality. You can't turn your children over to the public school establishment and expect that your children are going to come out Christian."

Rather than send their children into "harmful school environments where God is mocked," Lowers says, Christians should avoid these education settings. Whether they opt for home education or Christian private education, he insists, conscientious, God-honoring parents ought to choose alternatives to government schools, "where destructive peer influence is the norm," and "where drugs alcohol, promiscuity and homosexuality are promoted."

Lowers sounds a note of urgency, saying Christian families should flee the public school system now. "It's not too late for this school year," he stresses, "and I would suggest that a parent not risk the remainder of this school year, because the very soul of your child is at risk."
