Ohio Supreme Court Allows Planned Parenthood to Conceal Abortion Records in Sexual Abuse Case...

Parents suing a Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio clinic for failing to report statutory rape may not access other girls' medical records to see if they establish a pattern of neglect, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled today.

The lawsuit involves a 14-year-old girl who, unbeknownst to her parents, aborted a child in 2004, conceived after having relations with her 21-year-old soccer coach. Ohio state law requires that parents give consent for a minor's abortion, but the parents say only the coach signed off on the procedure.

Attorneys Charles Miller and Brian Hurley had attempted to procure the medical records of other minor girls who received abortions at the clinic to establish whether the facility had routinely neglected to report statutory rape.

The First District Court of Appeals in 2007 denied that the records should be handed over, even if the patients' identifying information were not included, saying that even so "it is arguable that disclosure would result in a privacy invasion." The court said such information would only be available to the attorneys had they filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of a group of parents against the clinic.

The Supreme Court at first declined to hear the appeal in January, but later reversed itself.

Hurley is also pursuing another case of abuse cover-up on behalf of a now-grown woman who says Planned Parenthood failed to report the routine sexual abuse committed against her by her father. Under Ohio law, suspected sexual abuse must be reported to authorities; however, the anonymous Ohio woman says the abuse was allowed to continue for another 18 months because Planned Parenthood did not act on information she divulged.

An ongoing sting operation by the student group Live Action Films has recently added to the growing pile of evidence that Planned Parenthood facilities in several states across America routinely sidestep laws mandating the reporting of sexual abuse.

The group released a video this week showing a Planned Parenthood counselor telling a girl, who said she was 14 and impregnated by a 31-year-old, that the clinic "does sometimes bend the rules a little bit" rather than report sexual abuse to state authorities.

YouTube Bans New Video of Planned Parenthood Telling Customer Abortion Photos "Not Real"...

Live Action Films, the investigative group responsible for uncovering the illegal practices of Planned Parenthood employees, has released another video showing a Planned Parenthood employee denying that widely disseminated photographs of aborted children are real. However, the video-sharing site YouTube quickly and without explanation removed the video, and the group says YouTube issued Live Action's account a "warning strike."

The video first plays undercover footage of a Planned Parenthood counselor from Tucson, AZ telling a patient that images of aborted fetuses are "not real."

Following a warning for graphic content, photographs of first-trimester abortion victims, similar to those regularly used on pro-life signs and websites were displayed, along with the website for their documentation of authenticity.

Acknowledging that Youtube does not permit "shock" videos, Live Action Films defended the video, saying: "Our video is clearly not a shock video as the graphic content is providing with a warning and a reasonable context for display. It is clear that our video passes the standard provided by the following YouTube Policy."

Lila Rose of Live Actions is calling on YouTube to re-instate the video in accordance with its own guidelines.

"Since the video we posted does not violate any terms of use, we expect YouTube to re- instate it immediately," said Rose. "YouTube's own 'Community Guideline Tips' advise that intense or disturbing imaging should be 'balanced with additional context and information,' which is exactly what Live Action has done."

YouTube has removed videos posted by Live Action without explanation before, including videos showing Planned Parenthood employees caught on tape sympathizing with donors with racist agendas who explain that they are donating to the organization to encourage the abortion of black babies.

Live Action's videos use undercover tactics to expose fraudulent practices in the abortion industry and are similar to other "sting" investigations which journalists often post on YouTube. The most recent video is part of Live Action's Mona Lisa Project, which documents abusive practices in Planned Parenthood facilities across the nation.

Footage released to date has caught on hidden camera six Planned Parenthood facilities in three states ignoring their mandatory reporting responsibilities for statutory rape and protecting adult-child sexual relationships.

Recently the Tennessee State Legislature used undercover footage from Live Action to help divert nearly $1 million in taxpayer subsidies from Planned Parenthood, and in California the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted to end a nearly $300,000 contract with the abortion provider.

"New media is vital to educating the public about the shocking realities of abortion practice in America," said Rose. "Our videos show hard truths about the abortion industry that must be seen and dealt with.

"Lawmakers and their constituents are recognizing this, but YouTube does everyone a disservice when they cooperate with Planned Parenthood in burying the evidence of abuse."

Since the scandal became public Pacheco has conducted his own investigations into many of D&P’s partners and published the findings on his blog along with his often fervent personal blog commentaries on the findings.

Pacheco's minimalist style video follows LifeSiteNews.com's release of a professionally produced video giving an overview of the scandal (see that video here). The conservative Catholic activist, following up on LSN's intitial report on Mexican groups funded by D&P, discovered and published additional evidence of groups in several nations that were being funded by Development and Peace while acting in violation of Catholic principles on abortion and contraception.

LifeSiteNews followed up on some of Socon or Bust's most significant leads with investigative news reports on them that included addtional information.

The conservative activist's 8-minute video walks viewers through the evidence proving that D&P has been funding pro-abortion and pro-contaception groups.” One partner says on the video that they were involved in “the struggle to preserve the legal right … to abortion,” specifically “therapeutic abortion,” saying that it was “stolen” from them.

Regarding the letter from the Peruvian bishops to Canada's bishops, Pacheco observes that the “fact that the Peruvian Bishops have to ask D&P to stop its sexual imperialism and exploitation of the poor is yet another disgrace of the Catholic Church.”

Pacheco concludes by listing a number of things that the lay faithful can do to in order to help solve this problem including. Educate “yourself about where your hard-earned money is going,” he says. “Do not blindly give to charities calling themselves ‘Catholic.’”

Denounces plans to lower the age of consent for abortion to 16 years old

Martinez Sistach, the Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona, Spain, said in a recent interview that abortion and abortifacient contraception are attacks on human life, comparing them to the mass murder of Jews by Nazi Germany during World War II.

Commenting on the murder of unborn children inside their mothers' wombs, Sistach observed that "the Bible teaches us that man and woman were created in the image and likeness of God. To touch a man or a woman is to touch God. To kill a human being is to kill God. Historically, we have seen barbarities like the Holocaust."

Society, he said, "should respect human life however it is, because all of us have limitations. If not, only some people could live, because we are in an egoistical and hedonistic society."

Remarking on the proposal by the ruling Spanish Socialist Worker's Party to allow adolescents as young as 16 to have an abortion without their parents' knowledge or consent, Sistach said that "society should make laws that promote life," and asked "how can someone have an abortion at 16 years of age without the consent of the parents, without them knowing?"

He also asked the Spanish government to act for the benefit of society, instead of merely pursuing votes. "I ask all politicians, who have a very noble and necessary task … not to think only about elections and votes."

The comments, which were made during an interview with the Catalonian broadcaster Catalunya Informacio, were widely reported in Spain as an attack on the government's planned reform of the nation's abortion law. If passed it will allow abortion on demand during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy, and dramatically lower the age of consent for the procedure.

The government is also proposing allowing the abortifiacient "morning after pill" to be sold in pharmacies without a prescription.

The proposals have sparked massive public protests, and a recent opinion poll indicated that a strong plurality of Spanish women and men are opposed to the new abortion legislation. The more conservative People's Party is making it a major issue in the upcoming elections for the European Parliament.

More Americans "pro-life" than "pro-choice" for first time since 1995: Gallup poll...

A new Gallup Poll, conducted May 7-10, has found that 51% of Americans call themselves "pro-life" on the issue of abortion and 42% "pro-choice." This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as pro-life since Gallup began asking that question in 1995.

The new results, obtained from Gallup's annual Values and Beliefs survey, represent a significant shift from a year ago, when 50% were pro-choice and 44% pro-life. Prior to the current poll, the highest percentage identifying as pro-life was 46%, in both August 2001 and May 2002.

The new survey documents comparable changes in views about the legality of abortion. About as many Americans now say the procedure should be illegal in all circumstances (23%) as say it should be legal under any circumstances (22%), in contrast with the last four years, when public opinion tilted more strongly in favor of unrestricted abortion.

Most people (53%) still say abortion should be legal only under certain circumstances; of these, 35% say it should be legal "only in a few circumstances," as opposed to "most circumstances."

Americans' recent shift toward the pro-life position is confirmed in two other surveys. The same three abortion questions asked on the Gallup Values and Beliefs survey were included in Gallup Poll Daily tracking from May 12-13, with nearly identical results, including a 50% to 43% pro-life versus pro-choice split on the self-identification question.

Additionally, a recent national survey by the Pew Research Center recorded an eight percentage-point decline since last August in those saying abortion should be legal in all or most cases, from 54% to 46%. The percentage saying abortion should be legal in only a few or no cases increased from 41% to 44% over the same period. As a result, support for the two broad positions is now about even, sharply different from most polling on this question since 1995, when the majority has typically favored legality.

The source of the shift came from among GOP ranks, according to the Gallup Values and Beliefs survey, where Republicans calling themselves "pro-life" rose from 60% to 70% since last year. About two out of three Democrats continue to identify as "pro-choice," virtually unchanged from recent years.

The swelling of the pro-life position since last year is seen across Christian religious affiliations, including an eight-point gain among Protestants and a seven-point gain among Catholics.

"With the first pro-choice president in eight years already making changes to the nation's policies on funding abortion overseas, expressing his support for the Freedom of Choice Act, and moving toward rescinding federal job protections for medical workers who refuse to participate in abortion procedures, Americans - and, in particular, Republicans - seem to be taking a step back from the pro-choice position," the pollster comments.

"That's a historic event from the pro-life perspective," American Life League president Judie Brown told LifeSiteNews.com today. She called the poll results are "excellent signs for progress."

Brown said the poll shows that grassroots-level pro-life education is paying off, and also that "people have begun to see through the deception of politicians who claim that they favor a woman's right but in fact don't favor anybody's rights, except the right to be re-elected."

Regarding the sharp upturn in pro-life identification over the past year, Brown agreed that the heavily pro-abortion agenda of President Odama has likely worked in favor of the pro-life movement.

"I think that people have now envisioned - maybe for the first time in some of their lives, because abortion has been decriminalized for so long - they envision an enemy who is very deceptive, and who never met an abortion he didn't like, and people are beginning to understand that, to see through him - and that's a great plus for us.

"As far as we're concerned, as pro-lifers, he [Odama] is helping us a great deal," said Brown. "It's fantastic."
