The Dec. 8 -14, 2002 issue of the National Catholic Register reports:
Ordaining homosexuals "is absolutely inadvisable and imprudent and, from a pastoral point of view, very risky," wrote the Vatican's point man on the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments in an official communication.
Cardinal Jorge Medina Estévez, responding to a letter from a bishop, added that "a person who is homosexual or has homosexual tendencies is not, therefore, suitable to receive the sacrament of sacred orders."
The Congregation (Vatican Department) for Divine Worship and the Sacraments published Cardinal Medina's letter in December in the congregation's bulletin. It was written last May to an unnamed bishop who had inquired about the propriety of ordaining homosexual men.
A February 1961 Vatican document also clearly states: "Advancement to religious vows and ordination should be barred to those who are afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since for them the common life and the priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers.”
Yet when the U.S. bishops met in Dallas this past June, they couldn't even agree that the role of dissent and homosexuality in this catastrophe was worth studying. This prompted Bishop Bruskewitz to call them this "hapless bench of bishops."

Moral clarity about homosexuality...
Msgr. Eugene Clark deserves a round of applause. In an April 2002 sermon given at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York, Msgr. Clark stated, "Unfortunately ... homosexual students were allowed to pass through seminaries. Grave mistake. Not because homosexuals in any way tend to criminality, but because it is a disorder and, as a disorder, should prevent a person from being ordained a priest." Msgr. Clark went on to say that "The tendency to homosexuality is a disorder, not a sin," he said. "But to say that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality—whose defining practice is sodomy—is wrong. That’s wrong…. Practicing homosexuality is truly sinful."
In February 1961, the Sacred Congregation for Religious issued the following statement: "Advancement to religious vows and ordination should be barred to those who are afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since for them the common life and the priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers.... They are not fit subjects for the religious life." The Holy Father’s spokesman, Joaquin Navarro-Valls, recently stated that no man demonstrating homosexual tendencies can be ordained to the priesthood.
Many
American bishops have ignored this
Vatican instruction. As a
result, the bishops have allowed homosexual predators into seminaries to be
ordained priests. The results are sadly front-page news. Even now, few American
bishops bar homosexual men from entrance into their seminaries or bar their
ordination, in direct violation of the February 1961 Vatican directive.
Scripture is very clear. From
St. Paul’s
Letter to the Romans, "For this cause God delivered them up to shameful
affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that which is
against nature. And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of
the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working
that which is filthy, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due
to their error." (Rom 1:26-27) And, from First Corinthians: “Know you not that
the unjust shall not possess the
kingdom of God? Do not err:
neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate
[practicing homosexuals], nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor drunkards,
nor railers, nor extortioners, shall possess the
kingdom
of God.”
(1 Cor. 6: 9-10) The sin of Sodom (homosexuality) is also listed by the Church
as one of the four sins that cry to Heaven for vengeance.
It's a homosexual problem, not a pedophile problem...
Many have been trying to spin the clergy’s homosexual abuse of boys as a “pedophile” problem. This is a lie. As John Neuhaus observes, “The overwhelming majority of the sexual abuse cases involve adult men having sex with teenage boys and young men, and by ordinary English usage we call that a homosexual relationship,” said the Rev. Richard John Neuhaus, editor of First Things, a conservative [Catholic] journal. “So there’s no blinking regarding that fact.” (“Homosexuality in Priesthood is Under Increasing Scrutiny,” New York Times, Laurie Goodstein, April 19, 2002)
The problem is essentially about criminal homosexual predation by Catholic priests and bishops: "This is chiefly a scandal about unchaste or criminal homosexuals in the Catholic priesthood," sums up National Review senior writer Rod Dreher. "For Catholics, to start asking questions about homosexuality in the priesthood is to risk finding out more than many Church members prefer to know. For journalists, to confront the issue is to risk touching the electrified third rail of American popular culture: the dark side of homosexuality." ('Pedophile priests' and Boy Scouts, David Kupelian, May 8, 2002)
More than ninety percent of cases involve teenage young men, clearly indicating that the problem is not pedophilia. From a WorldNetDaily article: "The problem is not clerical pedophilia," Fiore told WND, "but homosexuality." The distinction is important, Fiore noted, because most victims of Catholic clergy abuse are adolescents. "Strictly speaking," Fiore stated, "pedophilia is the sexual molestation of a pre-pubescent child of either sex," but the overriding problem is the abuse of older children from 12 to 18. "More than 90 percent of the cases," Fiore observed, "involve the clerical molestation of teen-age young men." ('Gay' culture in Catholic Church grows, Toby Westerman, March 24, 2002)
Homosexual disorder is acquired, not genetic...
The current crisis has been facilitating by those bishops, priests and seminary rectors who, with itching ears, have rejected the Church’s teaching that homosexuality is intrinsically evil and is a sin contrary to nature. Once these modernist bishops and priests rejected the truth, they openly accepted all manner of lies put forward by scientific man who openly reject the Church’s teachings on sexuality and the nature of man. Phil Brennan writes, “In recent years, in a dimwitted and largely cowardly effort to get along with the world whose values and morals are the exact opposite of those demanded of Christians by Christ, the bishops have too often compromised with that world.” (Lies, Common Scolds and Media Bigotry , Phil Brennan, April 24, 2002)
One such “cowardly effort to get along with the world” is the American bishops’ politically correct (and erroneous) view that homosexuality is attributed to genetic or other non-moral causes, thereby denying the reality that homosexuality is a sign of emotional disturbance. For the most part, the American bishops have bought into this lie, following the erroneous view of the American Psychiatric Association. In 1974, the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) removed homosexuality as a pathological psychiatric condition from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) in response to social pressures, and normal procedures for this removal were circumvented. The American bishops have largely followed suit with the PC American Psychiatric Association, and ignored very reputable Catholic psychiatrists (such as Conrad Baars) who faithfully uphold the Church’s teaching that homosexuality is a disorder.
As the following letter from a seminarian indicates, some seminaries professors continue to spout homosexual propaganda: “Homosexuals are not ‘hard-wired’ to come out homosexual. That is a lie propagated by the gay agenda, and people have begun to believe it because the gay agenda has blasted society with it. No one is born gay. The evidence for psychological root causes of homosexuality far outweighs the inconclusive biological research. Consider Anna Freud, Reuben Fine, Irving Bieber, Charles Socarides, Masters and Johnson, Gerard van den Aardweg, Fr. Jeffrey Keefe, Conrad Baars ... the list goes on and on. I can add at least 20 more names to it easily, of people who have researched this field and point to psychological causes of homosexuality.” (“Change is Not Possible? Letter to a Psychology Professor”)
Not all of the psychiatrists in the United States, however, are willing to promotion the homosexual propaganda. In fact, a study conducted in 1978 showed that 69% of American psychiatrists still regarded homosexuality as a pathological adaptation. A much more recent survey suggests that the majority of psychiatrists around the world continue to view same-sex behavior as signaling mental illness. Psychiatric research indicates that people with same-sex sexual behavior are at greater risk for psychiatric disorders. (American Medical Association (AMA) Archive, General Psychiatry. 2001; 58:85-91). Also, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or not sure youth were 3.41 times more likely to report a suicide attempt than heterosexuals (American Medical Association (AMA) Archive, Pediatric Adolescent Medicine. 1999; 153:487-493).
The American bishops have been very selective about who they listen to. Experts such as Drs. Joseph A. Dilenno and Herbert F. Smith have largely been ignored because they believe that homosexuality is acquired. You would be hard-pressed to find an American bishop quoting words such as these: “Homosexuality is an acquired characteristic. Today [1979] there is a consensus on this among psychiatrists. It is generally agreed that homosexuality is one aspect of a personality problem. The most important causative factors are psychogenic. There have been many investigations into other causes, and many efforts to prove that the causative agent in homosexuality is genetic, or congenital, or biological, or chemical, or organic. Every one of these efforts has clearly failed…. Furthermore, a homosexual man has a definite identity. He is not a man who wants to be a woman. He is a man who prefers sex with men… There are no born homosexuals. It is an emotional disposition that is learned…. By destiny one is born a biological male or female, but to rightly fulfill one’s biological role requires learning… Homosexuality always involves arrested development, and probably always involves emotional disorder.” (Herbert F. Smith and Joseph A. Dilenno, Sexual Inversion: The Church Answers (Boston: Daughters of St. Paul, 1979), pp. 95-97)
Smith and Dilenno also note that “The two basic factors in a child’s development into a homosexual appear to be his failure to identify securely with the parent of the same sex, and his failure to have a happy relationship with the parent of the opposite sex. Though not every child who lacks these basic securities becomes homosexual, every homosexual manifests this lack.” (Herbert F. Smith and Joseph A. Dilenno, Sexual Inversion: The Church Answers (Boston: Daughters of St. Paul, 1979), p. 99)
They further warn against allowing homosexuals into the priesthood: “In view of this evidence, it would be irresponsible for parents and society [bishops] not to protect impressionable young people from the homosexual ideology, the homosexual seducer, and the self-professed homosexual who applies for the sensitive post of teacher, priest, or youth guide.” (Herbert F. Smith and Joseph A. Dilenno, Sexual Inversion: The Church Answers (Boston: Daughters of St. Paul, 1979), p. 125)
Homosexuals can change...
The National Institute of Mental Health states that over 50 percent of homosexually oriented (or acting) individuals who present themselves for treatment can be helped to become heterosexual. (Michael E. Cavanagh, Make Your Tomorrow Better, New York: Paulist Press, 1980, p. 266) Dr. Theodore Isaac Rubin states: “Homosexuality is a symptom of emotional disturbance. Emotional disturbance can be remedied and the homosexual can become heterosexual, but the psychotherapeutic process is long and quite often painful… This means in effect, changing the relating habits of a lifetime—no easy matter. Few homosexual people have the extraordinary motivation required to take on this great effort—but some do and are successful.” (Dr. Theodore Isaac Rubin, The Winner’s Notebook, New York: Pocket Books, 1969, p. 53)
Furthermore, a study by Robert L. Spitzer of Columbia University shows people can change from gay to straight. This study was attacked by gay rights activists noting that many of the 200 who participated were referred by religious groups that condemn homosexuality. Dr. Spitzer responded by saying his research "shows some people can change from gay to straight and we ought to acknowledge that." (The Daily Breeze [Columbia University], "Study says some gays can become heterosexual" Wednesday 5/9/2001 pg A1).
As mentioned above, Dr. Conrad Baars is particularly ignored by the American bishops, even though he has written extensively and authoritatively on the subject of homosexuality. Dr. Baars writes: “There is some evidence to indicate that the emotional climate of the home in which the male homosexual very frequently develops is one in which the mother is a stereotypical ‘feminist’ who is perhaps unconsciously hostile to men. She is the dominant personality, the head of the house, while the father is weak and passive, having surrendered his natural position as head of the family to the wife, out of fear of her aggressiveness, contempt and ridicule…. Such a mother is the key figure in the development of her son’s homosexuality because, in her hostility to men, she seeks security—and perhaps revenge—by emasculating the men in her life.” (Dr. Conrad Baars and Jordan Aumann, The Unquiet Heart, pp. 136-137; see especially the chapter on “Homosexuality”)

How many loyal Catholics really think that the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB) is going to solve the homosexual-priest crisis? According to a June 12, 2002 article by Fox News, “A review of American bishops found leaders of 111 of the nation's 178 mainstream Roman Catholic dioceses allowed priests, religious brothers and lay employees accused of sex abuse to keep working, The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday.”
Also keep in the mind that the American bishops’ draft on clerical sex abuse does not even mention the word homosexuality, nor does it target the seminaries that have fostered/encouraged homosexual priests. These abominable seminaries have become the equivalent of “homosexual training camps” where the homosexual sub-culture finds a welcome home.
You can’t have openly gay seminaries (i.e., the “Pink Palace”, nickname for St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland) continuing to operate without the consent of the bishops; they go hand in hand. Certainly the clerical sex abuse is bad enough, but there is another evil, far greater, even higher up within the hierarchy of the Church that has to be identified. Ultimate responsible for these abominations lie with the American bishops and cardinals themselves.

Reigning bishops have great influence in the appointment of future bishops. The prevalence of so many confirmed homosexual bishops, or bishops allowing homosexuality to spread in their seminaries and dioceses, can be traced to a homosexual-promoting power base within the NCCB itself. The existence of this power base explains why there has been such an extensive coverup of homosexual abuse in the Catholic Church in the United States, why there are openly homosexual seminaries operating with the encouragement of these same bishops, and why it has taken the secular media to bring enough heat on the bishops that they have to pretend they are doing something, in order to save face.
A very insightful article by Roman Catholic Faithful president Steven Brady explains just how these homosexual bishops came to power:
“Bernardin’s legacy to the American Church will be discussed and debated, quite possibly, for centuries. No one disputes his influence: as creator of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and United States Catholic Conference; as a bishop-maker who, working with former Archbishop Jean Jadot, gave the American hierarchy its pronounced pro-gay orientation; as a subtle provocateur who nudged, consoled and empowered dissenters while professing his loyalty to his Roman superiors; as an architect of proposals to deconstruct the Roman liturgy, Catholic education and the all-important field of catechetics…. Bernardin used his influence, starting in 1968, as General Secretary of the U.S. Catholic Conference, to select bishops (many of whom are still ordinaries) who would (to put it charitably) condone and promote homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle and tolerate the sexual abuse of children by priests.” (Read more…)
In a June 12, 2002 interview with WorldNetDaily, Paul Likoudis states:
"I think some of the bishops in this country are so committed to social acceptance of homosexuality that they don't care about anything else," Likoudis told WorldNetDaily. "That's their No. 1 thing in life, because that is what they are spending most of their resources on."
This horrendous situation in the United States begs the question: If there has been so much scandal, so many bishops destroying the Catholic Faith, why hasn’t Rome intervened and sacked these heretical, sodomite bishops?
This is the BIG question, and for many Catholics, they won’t even go there to try to answer it, because the answer is too horrible to imagine.
