A fourth Democrat governor, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, is spending her taxpayers’ money to stockpile elective abortion drugs that OB-GYNs and emergency room doctors say are dangerous and should be removed from the market.

In an announcement Thursday, Kotek said she ordered her administration to buy a three-year supply of mifepristone in case federal courts side with the doctors in a lawsuit challenging the FDA’s approval of the abortion drug. The governor also is encouraging abortionists to openly defy the justice system and provide the abortion drug even if the court blocks it.

Kotek described the doctors’ lawsuit as “alarming” and claimed their safety concerns are baseless in a statement last week.

“By challenging the FDA’s authority over mifepristone, the lower court decisions set an alarming precedent of putting politics above established science, medical evidence, and a patient’s health, life, and well-being–with potential implications beyond this one medication,” Kotek said.

Her office is working with the Oregon Health & Science University to buy 22,500 doses of mifepristone. The drug currently is approved to kill unborn babies in elective abortions up to 10 weeks of pregnancy, although some abortionists use it later.

Significantly, Kotek also is undermining the entire justice system by encouraging abortionists in Oregon to defy any potential court order that restricts or bans the abortion drug.

According to her office, the governor recently told the state licensing boards “to issue guidance to Oregon providers clarifying that Oregon supports providers in … prescribing, dispensing and using mifepristone regardless of the upcoming Supreme Court decision.”

Other Democrat-led states also have bought stockpiles of abortion drugs in response to the federal court case: Washington, California, New York and Massachusetts. According to the AP, the governor of Maryland plans to do the same, and the New Jersey governor said he is considering the option.

Mifepristone has killed millions of unborn babies in elective abortions in the U.S., and studies indicate the risks to pregnant mothers are more common than what abortion activists often claim, with about one in 17 women requiring hospital treatment.

But the pro-abortion movement claims abortions are “essential health care,” and Democrat leaders like Kotek whose campaigns receive huge backing from the billion-dollar abortion industry parrot these claims.

Right now, the U.S. Supreme Court is considering a lawsuit from doctors with the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine that says the FDA improperly approved the abortion drug and ignored evidence of safety problems. Abortion activists fear the ruling may limit or block the sales of abortion drugs nationwide.

First approved under the Clinton administration, mifepristone works by blocking the hormone progesterone and basically starving the unborn baby to death. Typically, abortion groups also prescribe a second drug, misoprostol, to induce labor and expel the baby’s body.

Now, the drug is used for more than half of all abortions in the U.S. every year, killing hundreds of thousands of unborn babies, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the pro-abortion movement has been pushing abortion drugs even more heavily, and some groups send the drugs to women in pro-life states illegally.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been trying to expand the life-destroying drugs even further, first by allowing mifepristone to be sold through the mail without any direct medical supervision, and, more recently, by allowing pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS and RiteAid to sell them.

Along with millions of unborn babies’ deaths, the FDA has linked mifepristone to at least 28 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications. However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.

A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.
