The president of the American Society for Plastic Surgeons recently stated that his practice does not offer gender transition surgeries for minors.

Dr. Steven Williams told News Nation Now in an interview that he does not think there is not enough data supporting the effectiveness of “gender-affirming care” for minors.

“I don’t perform gender-affirming care in adolescents and the reason why is because I don’t think the data supports it,” he said. “So at my practice, we don’t even entertain that.”

Williams later added, “I know that I’m not comfortable with the level of evidence there is yet — and it’s a particularly vulnerable population — which is why I think it’s important to proceed with caution.”

Last month, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons challenged the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)’s guidelines on transgender surgeries for minors, as CatholicVote reported.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons stated that it “has not endorsed any organization’s practice recommendations for the treatment of adolescents with gender dysphoria,” saying that the evidence for the efficacy of these interventions is “low quality/low certainty.”

CatholicVote has also reported that WPATH came under scrutiny in June when court documents revealed that the Biden administration’s Rachel Levine pressured the organization to remove age restrictions in their Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People, Version 8 (SOC8).
