The Department of Health and Human Services today issued its updated definition of sex for all federal agencies and the public. The new guidance makes it clear that human life begins at conception.
The guidance was issued to make it clear there are only two biological sexes, but the confirmation also makes it clear that that establishment of the sex of a human being – this the life of a human being – begins at conception.
“The sex of a human, male or female, is determined genetically at conception (fertilization) and is observable before birth,” it reads.
It continues:
Having the biological function to produce eggs or sperm does not require that eggs or sperm are ever produced. Some females or males may not or may no longer produce eggs or sperm due to factors such as age, congenital disorders or other developmental conditions, injury, or medical conditions that cause infertility. A person’s sex is unchangeable and determined by objective biology. The use of hormones or surgical interventions do not change a person’s sex because such actions do not change the type of gamete that the person’s reproductive system has the biological function to produce. Rare disorders of sexual development do not constitute a third sex because these disorders do not lead to the production of a third gamete. That is, the reproductive system of a person with such a disorder does not produce gametes other than eggs or sperm.
This is biological truth confirmed for many years by science. Here are multiple scientific statements confirming this to be true.
Biological Principles and Modern Practice of Obstetrics, 1974, pages 17, 23, J.P. Greenhill and E.A. Freidman: “The term conception refers to the union of the male and female pronuclear elements of procreation from which a new living being develops. It is synonymous with the terms fecundation, impregnation, and fertilization … The zygote thus formed represents the beginning of a new life.”
Human Development: The Span of Life, 1974, page 28-29, George Kaluger: “In that fraction of a second when the chromosomes form pairs, the sex of the new child will be determined, hereditary characteristics received from each parent will be set, and a new life will have begun.”
This new guidance implements the executive order Trump signed in January. It shouldn’t take an executive order to re-establish a human being’s constitutional right to live, let alone their basic biology. But, President Donald Trump has just ensured both are protected.
“‘Female’ means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell,” states his newly signed Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government executive order affirming there are only two genders.
